Tim McGraw's Last Dollar

On the drive back to London last night, I finally heard Tim McGraw's Last Dollar, the first single off his forthcoming album, Let It Go. Although my buddy the Road Hammer won't like the kids singing at the end of the song, it reminds me of the upbeat tunes McGraw was known for in the late 1990s on albums like Everywhere and A Place in the Sun, before he became addicted to Springsteen-esque introspectives. You can watch the video here.

Mrs. H couldn't help but notice Reba's tight-lipped expression last night after the Dixie Chicks took home best country album of the year.

I thought they didn't want to be called country anymore.

And how fitting was it that gloating brat Natalie Maines quoted the Simpsons in her acceptance speech, every 14-year old smart aleck's favourite show?

Hammer, don't get me started. Natalie Maines is an embarrassing boor.

Andy Barrie (local CBC morning man) commented that this showed that the country music establishment has finally come around on the Chicks.

I liked this piece in this morning's Globe and Mail. I think the author sums the Chicks up nicely when he writes, "The Chicks seem less agitated about American foreign policy (or the domestic impositions of the Patriot Act) than about what happened to them personally. They were having a perfect storybook career, and suddenly people got mad and said mean things and interfered with the steady rise of their concert receipts and album sales."

Obviously half-empty stadiums and tour dates re-routed towards the coasts and into Canada haven't registered with Mr. Barrie, who also probably doesn't know what the acronyms "CMAs" and "ACMs" stand for.

Plus... how brave were they? They aplogized days after insulting President Bush, only after his popularity wained did they "take back" their apology.
